EQUINE OSTEOPATHY
Osteopathy is a science and system of healing that uses physical techniques to remove tension and restrictions in the body in order to encourage structural and physiological harmony. From working on joints and muscles to improving blood flow and regulating nerve supply, osteopathy works on many different levels with the aim of rebalancing the body's structures, aiding its function and improving general well being. Like human osteopathy, equine osteopathy is a system of healing and alignment which removes tension, improves blood flow and drainage to and from soft tissues and helps mobility in joints through articulation, stretch and manipulation. Osteopaths are in a unique position for the assessment and treatment of animals. Our knowledge of anatomy and bio-mechanics allow a high level of accuracy when diagnosing problems. Our experience and level of palpatory touch skills mean that we can confirm diagnosis by assessing quality of tissue and movement of muscles and joints and the reason for dysfunction. Equine Osteopaths are trained to recognize and treat many causes of pain. They work with their hands using a wide variety of treatment techniques. These may include soft tissue massage, stretching techniques, rhythmic passive joint movements, and mobilizations to improve joint mobility, or high velocity thrust techniques designed to improve the mobility and the range of movement of a joint
CANINE OSTEOPATHY
I treat dogs who need help after surgery, have chronic conditions which affect their movement and balance or have particular strains and stresses due to their work (greyhounds, working dogs, agility dogs). Sometimes a course of several treatments is needed. Agility and Racing dogs, much like top human athletes, can suffer from over training and benefit from muscles being looked after. Elderly dogs’ mobility can be improved, combating stiffness in arthritic joints.
At other times a simple 'MOT' check can show whether the musculoskeletal system is working optimally for dogs to do the work they are required to do. If you would like me to treat your dog, please check you have the permission of your vet. Most vets are happy to refer. I am registered with the General Osteopathic Council, fully qualified and insured to treat companion animals.
Osteopathy is very effective for the treatment of dogs.
